WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
Kindergarten,1st and 2nd grade educators will learn to implement our A Sentence A Day resource. Instruction includes a weekly guide on how to establish meaningful routines in the primary classroom that focus on writing sentences, building powerful vocabulary, and learning grammar and conventions. Each week of instruction includes a theme and is often useful for building awareness of story.
This Professional Development course will include connections to Kindergarten and 1st Grades Getting to Write resources and Grade 2 genre specific writing resources.
Our digital A Sentence A Day resource, available in the HUB, includes bonus content in the form of PowerPoints, and will be introduced during the course. Join our master educators for this comprehensive Professional Development course to successfully implement A Sentence a Day.

This presentation includes dynamic, interactive modeling by the presenter. All participants are encouraged to actively engage during the workshop by providing responses during the modeling segments, asking questions and interacting with others when possible. You’ll be introduced to the developmental stages of writing, learn to teach your students how to identify genre and author’s purpose, and develop the foundational skills of narrative, informational and opinion writing. Learn skills and strategies for teaching effective narrative writing whether you teach ELA, Social Studies, Humanities or Science. We will make connections to all parts of your curriculum so you can seamlessly apply the skills your students learn to your content area topics. This workshop is geared towards teachers grades 2-8. Empowering Writers' approach to writing instruction is student centered and teacher friendly.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN: Foundational writing skills that start by reading with “Author’s Eyes,” instructional tools to support deeper comprehension of text through annotation and analysis, how to break the writing process down into manageable pieces, how to provide actionable feedback when assessing student work, differentiation strategies, and the confidence to teach narrative writing as you build a community of writers through common language and assured experiences.

Workshop Requirements: Each participant is required to have the corresponding Empowering Writers’ teaching manual (digital guide or printed manual) for this Narrative writing workshop.
